Noon Friday 11th December 2020 – Public Launch of Six Bells Red
100% covid safe, join us on zoom https://ucl.zoom.us/wc/join/92082269256
I am very happy to invite you to the unveiling of a cast iron map marking the source of Six Bells Ochre and launching two new paints made from the ochre derived from this important site.
The link between the source of the ochre at Six Bells with the production of a new paint connects the historical significance of this ex-mining landscape with the development of the newly emerging colour.
Over the last 5 years I have been working with many people to bring together this project which emphasises and foregrounds the changing conditions underway in the British landscape through the materials forming there.
Ochre, or iron oxide minerals are a residual material of the mine water treatment process, and Six Bells Red emulsion and Six Bells Burnt Ochre have been developed by recycling these residues.
Friday 11th December at 12 noon
This online public launch event will be hosted on Zoom and can be joined via this link:
https://ucl.zoom.us/j/
After the launch, 100 tins of Six Bells Red emulsion and 1000 tubes of Six Bells Burnt Ochre artists’ oil paint will be available to buy from the website www.turninglandscape.
Turning Landscape CIC (Community Interest Company) will recycle all proceeds from the sales back into the project to fund more paint making alongside an art education programme at Six Bells.
The hosting of event has been made possible with the help of Ty Ebbw Fach (Six Bells Regeneration Ltd) and the research has been generously supported by The Coal Authority, Leverhulme Trust, UCL Innovation and Enterprise and Slade School of Fine Art. The oil paint has been made by Michael Harding in Cwmbran South Wales, and the mineral emulsion made by Onya McCausland and endorsed by Ty Mawr Lime.
We are excited to announce an exciting new Cafe partnership starting in Jan 2020. We will need volunteers and customers !
